DeLonghi Dinamica Review (2023) – How Good Is It?

Last update:

While Dinamica certainly isn’t an inexpensive machine, I think it justifies its price point with its automatic features. If you are on the fence about getting one for your home, this review might help you to make up your mind.

Over these last couple of months, I’ve tested and researched every feature on DeLonghi Dinamica (models ECAM35020B and ECAM35075SI) to see what it takes to extract an extraordinary cup from this dynamic Italian espresso maker.

Let’s dive right into my DeLonghi Dinamica review and explore why folks are falling head over heels for one of DeLonghi’s top-rated espresso machines!

It’s true, DeLonghi is one of the most popular Italian espresso machine manufacturers in the world. And their Dinamica series has been and still is one of the top-selling units.

If you read my blogs and reviews, you know that I’m not head over heels about these push-button machines, but a few like Dinamica and Magnifica always change my mind.

In short, the DeLonghi Dinamica espresso machine is an all-in-one wonder. It is a super-automatic espresso machine designed to deliver consistent and barista-quality coffee without compromising on convenience and ease of use.

Dinamica delivers consistently good espresso thanks to its automatic brewing system, and if you want to smear your espresso with some milk, the Panarello steam wand helps you to froth milk to your desired level of thickness and texture.

I would say that Dinamica is a perfect machine for those of you who prefer the convenience of automatic brewing and yet appreciate the taste of espresso and perhaps even want to experiment with different coffee blends.

The machine features a conical burr grinder with 13 different settings, preinfusion brewing technology, quick heat-up time (40 seconds), and can even brew iced coffee thanks to TrueBrew Over Ice tech. And the price is great too.

It’s safe to say that this powerhouse espresso machine brings together innovation, functionality, and sophistication in one compact package. To get more details about its features, keep on reading my DeLonghi Dinamica review!

Build Quality & Design

The DeLonghi Dinamica features a high-quality build with a contemporary and sleek Italian design. I didn’t expect less from this manufacturer to be honest.

Its durable stainless steel and plastic build prevents breakage and ensures long-lasting use. The machine also has a compact design to fit into any kitchen or office space, taking up minimal countertop space.

As for the design and ease of use, the DeLonghi Dinamica features an easy-to-use control panel that offers a user-friendly experience, thanks to its intuitive touchscreen interface.

DeLonghi Dinamica Review - Interface

The touch controls allow you to set the temperature, strength, and volume of the coffee while offering easy cleaning and maintenance.

Overall, although some might disagree, I feel that Dinamica is one sturdy little espresso machine. It’s well-made, and looks good, especially in white colour!

Main Features

Built-In Grinder

The built-in grinder on the DeLonghi Dinamica gives you the option of grinding your own coffee beans right on the spot. This is important as the coffee beans will retain their flavour and aroma instead of getting stale in pre-ground coffee.

However, if you prefer using fresh pre-ground coffee, you can use the bypass grind function. This feature allows you to use your favourite blend right from the bag.

By the way, the grinder on Dinamica is made from stainless steel. It is a conical burr grinder. All this means that the grinder is not only made to last but it will also make sure that your grind is uniform and precise every time.

The 13 grind settings on the DeLonghi Dinamica espresso machine are adjustable, making it possible to choose from fine to coarse grinding options. You can control the coarseness of the ground coffee, allowing you to make different coffee styles, from espresso to Americano.

I like how easy it is to change the grind settings. You’ll find a dial inside the bean hopper. Simply turn it to set the grinder to grind on the preferred coarseness level and that’s it.

Steam Wand

The DeLonghi Dinamica’s steam wand is conveniently placed on the side of the machine and features a Panarello attachment at the end, which helps in creating smooth and silky milk foam for your favourite espresso drinks.

I can attest to the wonders of its Panarello steam wand. The steam wand may require some manual effort on your part to froth milk, but the end result is nothing short of exceptional (more about this later in my DeLonghi Dinamica review).

The steam wand on the DeLonghi Dinamica espresso machine has two options: hot water and steam. The hot water option can be used for making Americanos or heating cups, while the steam option is used for frothing milk.

Brew Group

The brew group is the heart of the DeLonghi Dinamica espresso machine, and it’s responsible for ensuring that each cup of coffee is brewed to perfection.

The machine uses a patented brewing system that involves a unique brewing chamber design and a pre-infusion system. These two features work together to extract the most flavour out of each coffee bean, resulting in a rich and full-bodied cup of coffee.

More about the entire brewing experience later in this DeLonghi Dinamica review!

The brew group on Dinamica is designed to work tirelessly. I particularly appreciate the fact that the unit is removable, making it easy to clean and maintain, without having to dismantle the entire machine.

Adjustable Coffee Spout

I’ve come to realize that a lot of the machines out there are designed for only one type of cup. But the Dinamica is different. With a maximum cup height of 5.3 inches, it’s incredibly versatile.

The adjustable spout is easy to move up and down. Whether you’re making espresso or a long black, you can adjust the height to suit your cup perfectly. This makes brewing a cup of coffee stress-free and efficient.

This convenient feature on DeLonghi Dinamica also ensures that the coffee is dispensed directly into the cup, minimizing splashing and mess.

Water Tank

With a water tank capacity of 60 ounces, Dinamica provides enough water to brew at least 6-8 cups of coffee. Its capacity (and other features) make it a perfect espresso machine for offices or large households.

What’s more impressive about the water tank of the DeLonghi Dinamica espresso machine is that it comes with a water filter.

In my opinion, low-quality water can ruin your espresso. This filter ensures that the water you use to brew coffee is free of any impurities that could alter its taste and quality.

But probably my favourite thing about the water tank is that it loads from the front. This design makes it more convenient to refill the tank than it is from the back where you can usually find this feature.

Single Boiler

The Dinamica has a rapid steam technology that ensures that the single boiler heats up fast, taking only 40 seconds from off to brewing. On the downside, a single boiler setup won’t allow you to steam and brew at the same time.

I personally prefer the dual boiler found on Dinamica Plus just because of this. I hate when my espresso “falls down” while I’m waiting for the boiler to switch from brewing to steaming.

The boiler on DeLonghi Dinamica is made of sturdy steel, which assures us of its quality and longevity. The durability of the single boiler is critical, as it directly affects the long-term usability and cost-effectiveness of the machine.

Additionally, the single boiler on the Dinamica is also compact, which allows for more space to be utilized within the machine. This feature is crucial, especially if you have limited kitchen space, as it ensures that the machine does not take up too much room.

Brewing Performance

While some low-end super-automatic espresso machines I tried and tested over the years struggle, the brewing performance of the Dinamica is outstanding due to its advanced brewing technology and features.

DeLonghi Dinamica Review - Espresso Brewing

As I mentioned earlier in this DeLonghi Dinamica review, the machine has a built-in grinder with the option to adjust the grinding settings to either fine, medium or coarse, depending on your preference.

This is an important part of the brewing process because it ensures that the coffee beans are ground fresh and to the perfect size for the brewing process.

With five different brewing strengths to choose from, you can experiment with which strength suits your taste buds best. Whether you want a mild flavour or a strong kick to your coffee, the Dinamica has got you covered.

Once you are ready to brew, the “One Touch” system allows you to create your coffee drink with just one touch of a button. Simply choose the drink you want. You can pick from espresso to double espresso, Americano or iced Americano.

The machine does the rest! That’s the beauty of a super-automatic espresso machine.

Overall, in my review, DeLonghi Dinamica was able to make a superb-tasting cup of coffee every single time. It’s easy to use and makes great coffee!

Milk Frothing & Steaming

As mentioned earlier in my DeLonghi Dinamica review, the machine features a Panarello steam wand. It’s a manual wand but it is designed to make the process of steaming the milk for your latte or flat white feel almost like it is automated.

All you have to do is fill the milk jug with milk and place the wand inside. The knob on the left side above the steam wand lets you turn on the steam. Once it is in position, the Dinamica will start steaming your milk.

The microfoam produced is the perfect density and it enhances the flavor of the coffee as well. However, I have to say that you will have a tough time achieving the ideal microfoam for latte art.

You can also play with the process and choose between thick, medium, and thin consistencies. Based on my experience, thin is good for a latte or flat white while thick and medium will go do well for your cappuccino.

Cleaning & Maintainance

First and foremost, it’s essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and maintaining the machine. The Dinamica machine comes with a handy instruction manual that outlines the essential cleaning and maintenance steps.

One of the key cleaning features of the DeLonghi Dinamica is its automatic descaling cycle. Descaling is the process of removing accumulated mineral deposits that can clog the machine’s internal components and affect the coffee’s quality.

The Dinamica’s descaling cycle is super easy to use and ensures that the machine remains in pristine condition, improving the coffee’s flavour.

Another important feature of the DeLonghi Dinamica espresso machine that needs to be cleaned carefully and regularly is the removable brew group. Wash it with warm water and mild soap, but DON’T put it in the dishwasher!

Don’t forget to turn off and unplug the machine before taking out the brew group to avoid any problems and errors in the future.

Cleaning the drip tray and ground coffee container is another step in keeping the Dinamica machine clean. Both are easy to remove and dishwasher-safe. Make sure to empty them regularly.

As I said earlier in the DeLonghi Dinamica review, the machine comes with a built-in filter to prevent mineral build-up, but I would still give it a good cleaning every two weeks.

PRO TIP: Remove the water tank, fill it with 50/50 water and vinegar solution, and let it soak for an hour before rinsing it with hot water.

Lastly, you should always clean the steam wand after each use. Simply purge the wand and wipe it with a damp cloth to collect the leftover milk residue and you’ll be fine.

Who Is DeLonghi Dinamica For?

I’m sure that DeLonghi Dinamica is perfect for people who prefer one-touch espresso brewing but don’t care too much about the customization of the drink.

Cheers to DeLonghi’s UK YouTube channel for this video.

The machine is fully automatic, which means you don’t have to worry about grinding coffee beans or tamping your espresso. It does the work for you with the touch of a button.

You can make 4 types of espresso-based drinks: espresso, lungo, americano, and coffee over ice. The machine even allows you to personalize each drink to your liking by adjusting the strength.

And if you like lattes and cappuccinos, Dinamica will do the job. Keep in mind that it is a manual frother with some automatic capabilities so there is a need for manual input.

Who Is DeLonghi Dinamica Not For?

If you’re a coffee purist who wants full control over the brewing process, the DeLonghi Dinamica is not for you.

While it does offer some customization options like adjusting the strength and temperature, it’s still a super-automatic machine that takes care of much of the brewing process for you.

If you would like to have complete control over the brewing process but want to keep some automated features like brewing espresso, you might want to look into semi-automatic espresso machines.

And if you are a fan of DeLonghi, I would recommend the La Specialista.

DeLonghi Dinamica ECAM35020B vs ECAM35075SI

As someone who has personally compared the DeLonghi Dinamica ECAM35020B and ECAM35075SI, I can confidently attest to the subtle yet impactful differences between these two machines.

DeLonghi Dinamica ECAM35020B vs ECAM35075SI

Firstly, the ECAM35020B boasts a more compact design, making it ideal for smaller kitchens or those with limited counter space. The ECAM35075SI, on the other hand, takes up slightly more room but offers a larger water tank capacity.

Secondly, the ECAM35075SI stands out due to its milk-frothing capabilities. The LatteCrema System ensures that milk is frothed to the perfect consistency each time. On the other hand, ECAM35020B features a less advanced manual frother.

Lastly, the Dinamica ECAM35020B is a single boiler. This means that you can’t brew and steam simultaneously. The Dinamica ECAM35075SI has two boilers. One for steaming milk and the other for brewing coffee.

Overall, both machines have their strengths and weaknesses, and it ultimately comes down to personal preference.

If you prioritize espresso, the ECAM35020B is a great option. However, if a wider variety of drink options are important to you, the ECAM35075SI might be the way to go. Either way, you can’t go wrong with a DeLonghi Dinamica machine.

DeLonghi Dinamica Review – Verdict

All in all, I can confidently stand by my recommendation of the DeLonghi Dinamica. It is the perfect addition to any kitchen, not too large but still packed with features.

Whether you’re a novice or an espresso enthusiast, you’ll find this machine to be a great choice for its user-friendly settings and good value. From its built-in grinder, advanced brewing technology, and a solid milk frother, DeLonghi has made sure this model offers something for everyone.

Not to mention that it looks just as stylish as it perform. All these features make the DeLonghi Dinamica well worth investing in! Thanks for reading my review!
