It’s true, there are too many great Breville espresso machines. 11 altogether – from basic to advanced models such as Oracle Touch.

And with a wide range comes a tough choice, as each machine flaunts different features and price tags, making the decision-making process seem like a daunting task.

The good news is, I have selected the top 3 models from Breville’s workshop to help you make an easy decision. Here are my favourite choices:

Breville Barista Pro – Best Overall

The Barista Pro offers powerful performance with its fast heat-up time, precise temperature control, and integrated conical burr grinder, making it a popular choice for home baristas.

The Barista Pro is a top-of-the-line machine that combines advanced technology with a sleek design. Designed for both beginners and coffee enthusiasts, this machine offers a range of features that I love.

From top to bottom, one of the key features of this machine is its built-in grinder. It features a high-quality conical burr grinder that grinds coffee beans on demand.

If you want more control over the brewing process, the grinder allows you to adjust the grind size and dose according to your preferences. You can choose between 30 settings. Only Oracle Touch (our upgrade pick) has more settings.

Furthermore, Barista Pro features a Thermojet heating system, which means fast heat-up time. Within just a few seconds, the machine reaches the optimal extraction temperature. This heating system is available on Barista Touch and Bambino models.

PRO TIP: Although the Thermojet heats up fast, it doesn’t heat the brew group. So pull a black shot through the brew head before brewing, or your espresso will turn sour.

The precise digital temperature control (PID) is installed to make sure that the water is maintained at the ideal temperature throughout the brewing process.

Here’s another neat trick to get amazing coffee out of your Barista Pro: low-pressure pre-infusion. This hydrates the grounds so you get a rich, flavorful crema. Most Breville models have this feature, but you can program it on the Pro.

All these features on the Pro help to achieve perfect extraction every single time. It comes with a single and double filter basket so you can brew different sizes and strengths for your espressos.

Another notable feature of the Barista Pro is its intuitive interface. The machine features a clear and user-friendly LCD display making it easier to program setting like shot volume, grind settings, water temperature, and more.

The unit includes a steam wand for frothing milk. The tip of the wand has been upgraded from three to four holes. The new and more powerful steam wand delivers consistent steam pressure, making it easy to achieve barista-quality milk texture and latte art.

For easier cleaning, the Breville machine features a removable drip tray, a water tank, and a dedicated storage compartment for accessories. It also has an automatic cleaning cycle that purges the steam wand after each use, ensuring hygiene and convenience.

Breville Duo Temp Pro – Best On-Budget

The Duo Temp Pro provides excellent value with its consistent temperature control, compact design, and affordable price point, making it an attractive choice for beginners and budget-conscious coffee lovers.

Just like all Breville espresso machines, Duo Temp Pro showcases a sleek and modern design, blending stainless steel elements with a compact footprint.

One of our favourite things about this budget-friendly model is its durable construction and user-friendliness. The controls are thoughtfully placed and clearly labelled, which makes pulling espressos with this unit an easy task.

The Duo Temp Pro comes with a 15-bar Italian pump and a thermocoil heating system. Thanks to these components it delivers consistent and precise water temperature for optimal espresso extraction.

The 54-millimetre portafilter and integrated tamper on this machine help to perfect the dose for extraction. You can brew a single and double shot.

Just like all Breville’s units, this one wets the grounds before extraction. The machine’s pre-infusion feature gradually increases water pressure to saturate the coffee grounds, resulting in a balanced and flavorful shot.

The PID temperature control system maintains stability throughout the brewing process, ensuring a high-quality cup of espresso with every extraction.

The Duo Temp Pro’s steam wand offers solid milk frothing capabilities. We find that the wand provides ample steam pressure, which helps to get micro-foam for latte art.

However, it’s worth noting that the steam wand is not as professional as on Barista Pro or Oracle Touch. But you can still create latte art. It just takes more time and practice to perfect your frothing skills with this unit.

One of the standout features of the Duo Temp Pro is its user-friendly design. As I mentioned, the intuitive interface and clearly labelled controls make it effortless to operate.

The downside is that this machine only has one boiler, so you can’t make espresso and steam milk at the same time. But honestly, it’s easy to swap between the two functions, so it’s not a big deal.

While the Duo Temp Pro lacks some of the advanced programmable features found in higher-end models, it still offers a decent level of customization.

Breville Oracle Touch – Best Upgrade

The Oracle Touch sets a new standard with its unparalleled automation, touch-screen interface, and integrated grinder, offering a seamless brewing experience for both espresso shots and milk-based beverages.

The Oracle Touch is an upgraded version of Oracle (further down on our list). It was upgraded with an intuitive touchscreen interface allowing for effortless navigation and customization.

The Oracle Touch allows you to brew espresso automatically. This means that the machine does all the work for you (more or less) helping you to achieve perfect results every time.

With just a few taps on the touch screen, you can select your desired coffee beverage, such as espresso, latte, or cappuccino. The machine will then walk you through the process and automatically grind the beans, dose the correct amount, tamp, extract the espresso, and even texture the milk to perfection.

This unit has a built-in conical burr grinder that comes with 45 settings and dose-control grinding. You can also customize and save your preferred coffee settings (up to 8 profiles), including grind size, shot volume, milk texture, and temperature.

This level of automation ensures consistency and eliminates the need for manual adjustments, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced users.

The Oracle Touch comes with a dual stainless steel boiler system, which offers simultaneous brewing and milk frothing capabilities. The dedicated espresso boiler delivers precise water temperature control, while the steam boiler generates ample steam pressure for fast and efficient milk frothing.

Just like in every other Breville espresso machine, PID temperature control further enhances stability, ensuring optimal brewing conditions for exceptional espresso extraction.

The Oracle Touch features an automatic steam wand. This technology takes the guesswork out of milk frothing. The wand’s adjustable temperature and texture settings enable you to achieve the perfect milk consistency for various espresso drinks.

Despite its advanced features, the Oracle Touch is easy to clean and maintain. The machine features automatic cleaning cycles for the coffee and milk systems, minimizing the effort required for upkeep.

The issue with the Oracle lies in its noise. Despite being a new model with an advanced touchscreen, it is no less raucous than lower-end espresso machines. I find it disappointing given its price point.

Our list of best Breville espresso machines continues with 7 interesting choices that are definitely worth considering.

Breville Barista Express

The Barista Express strikes a balance between affordability and performance, featuring a built-in grinder, 15-bar pump pressure, and intuitive controls, making it a popular choice for home baristas.

Right of the bat, you can see that the machine is well-built, with attention to detail evident in every aspect of its design, including the ergonomically placed controls and the well-positioned steam wand.

The intuitive interface of the Barista Express simplifies the brewing process although some prefer the modern interface with LCD display and automatic controls like it is the case with Barista Pro.

One of the standout features of the Express is its integrated conical burr grinder. The grind size and dose can be easily adjusted using the dial on the front. On the downside, it has only 16 grind settings, compared to the Pro’s 30 settings. But it still does a good job.

Since it uses the same precise dosing technology to grind your beans, this also means there’s less mess for you to clean up.

The Express features the Thermocoil heating system. This heating system is found in Duo Temp Pro and Infuser. Termocoil ensures optimal water temperature for extraction, resulting in flavorful and well-balanced espresso.

Furthermore, the machine’s PID temperature control provides accurate temperature stability throughout the brewing process. The Breville Barista Express also has low-pressure pre-infusion, like the Barista Pro, for more flavour espresso extraction.

To help you consistently brew customised shots, the Express allows you to manually adjust the parameters, such as adjusting grind size, dose, and extraction time. Plus it’s got a helpful pressure gauge that helps to monitor the pressure during the extraction.

Since it is a semi-automatic machine, you will have to spend an ample amount of time dialling in your unit to achieve perfect results. This could be a bit of an issue if you are a newbie, but the good news is that the detailed instruction manual is there to help!

The steam wand, equipped with a commercial-style design, has only one whole. However, this is enough to produce ample steam pressure for texturing milk. However, it may take a bit of practice to master the technique.

Breville Bambino Plus

The Bambino Plus combines compactness with impressive performance, featuring fast heat-up time, automatic milk frothing, and a 54mm portafilter for consistent extractions, making it an excellent choice for those with limited counter space.

Despite its compact design, we find that the machine feels sturdy and well-built, reflecting Breville’s commitment to quality. By the way, it was between Duo Temp Pro and Bambino for the best on-budget option for us.

One of the standout features of this compact unit is its impressive heat-up time. It uses the same ThermoJet heating system as Barista Pro. This helps the machine reach the optimal brewing temperature in just a few seconds and allows you to brew fast.

And just like Due Temo Pro, this unit comes with a 54mm portafilter and a powerful 15-bar Italian pump. The pre-infusion function gradually increases water pressure to ensure even saturation of the coffee grounds, resulting in a flavorful and balanced shot.

The machine’s PID temperature control maintains stable water temperature throughout the extraction process, providing consistent results with each brew.

The Bambino Plus features an automatic steam wand that takes the guesswork out of milk frothing. With just a press of a button, the machine delivers microfoam milk texture, creating velvety and creamy froth for lattes and cappuccinos.

You can also select the texture and temperature (50, 70, or 90 degrees) of the milk with three buttons. This makes it simple to get microfoam for coffee or super foamy cappuccinos.

We find this feature particularly helpful for beginners or those who prefer convenience without compromising on milk quality.

The Bambino Plus features a user-friendly interface with straightforward controls. The dedicated buttons and intuitive dials allow for an easy selection of shot volumes and milk textures.

Cleaning and maintenance are made hassle-free with the Bambino Plus. The machine’s automatic purge function cleans the steam wand after each use, preventing milk residue build-up. The drip tray and water tank are removable. Additionally, the machine comes with a cleaning tool and a storage compartment to keep your accessories organized.

With its user-friendly interface and easy maintenance, the Bambino Plus is suitable for both beginners and experienced coffee enthusiasts.

Breville Infuser

The Infuser offers a solid entry-level option with its pre-infusion function, PID temperature control, and stainless steel construction, providing consistent and flavorful espresso shots as well as great value for the price.

Like all Breville espresso machines, Infuser features durable construction that ensures longevity, while the attention to detail in the design, such as the ergonomic controls and intuitive interface, enhances the overall user experience.

The machine’s sturdy build quality reflects Breville’s commitment to delivering reliable and high-performing coffee equipment.

Infuser is equipped with a 15-bar Italian pump, PID temperature control and a thermocoil heating system, which guarantees precise water temperature control for optimal espresso extraction.

But the main feature is the pre-infusion technology that gradually increases water pressure to gently expand the coffee grounds, ensuring a more even extraction and extracting maximum flavour.

The Infuser offers both volumetric and manual control options, allowing you to customize your espresso brewing experience. The volumetric settings enable you to program and save your preferred shot volumes, providing consistency with each extraction.

Additionally, the manual override feature gives you the flexibility to adjust extraction time for experimenting and fine-tuning your brewing technique.

A standout feature of the Infuser is its built-in pressure gauge, just like on the Barista Express, which provides real-time feedback on extraction pressure. This allows you to monitor and adjust the extraction process to achieve optimal results.

While it may require some practice to master the technique, the machine’s steam wand offers flexibility and control to achieve desired milk temperatures and textures. The wand’s manoeuvrability and range of motion allow for seamless milk frothing.

The Infuser is designed with user-friendliness in mind. The intuitive interface simplifies the brewing process, and the dedicated buttons and dials ensure easy navigation. The machine’s removable water tank, drip tray, and accessories facilitate easy cleaning and maintenance, making it a convenient choice for daily use.

Breville Dual Boiler

The Dual Boiler features dual boilers for simultaneous brewing and steaming. Its robust construction and professional-grade performance make it a favourite among home baristas seeking ultimate control over their coffee brewing process.

The standout feature of the Dual Boiler machine is its dual boiler system. This design allows for simultaneous espresso extraction and milk steaming, eliminating the need to wait between brewing and frothing.

The dedicated espresso boiler ensures precise temperature control for optimal extraction, while the steam boiler generates ample steam pressure for creating velvety microfoam. The dual boiler system enables you to achieve consistent results and efficiently cater to multiple drink orders.

The machine’s steam wand effortlessly froths and textures milk with precision, giving you control over temperature and texture for café-quality drinks and latte art.

With its PID temperature control, the Dual Boiler offers the same precision in maintaining optimal brewing conditions as every other Breville espresso machine.

This feature ensures that the water temperature remains stable throughout the brewing process, resulting in consistent and well-balanced espresso shots. And the ability to fine-tune the temperature settings gives you full control over extraction.

This machine offers manual control over pre-infusion and extraction time, giving you the freedom to experiment and fine-tune your brewing technique. You can reprogram the shot volumes and pre-infusion times, allowing you to save your preferred settings for consistent brews.

Just like Barista Express, the Dual Boiler machine features a pressure gauge that provides real-time feedback on extraction pressure. This allows you to monitor and adjust the pressure during extraction to achieve your desired flavour profile.

On the other hand, it doesn’t include a built-in grinder, which means you will have to either buy a stand-alone grinder or opt-in for a similar model that has a built-in grinder such as Barista Express or Pro.

Despite its advanced features, the Dual Boiler machine is designed with user-friendliness in mind. The intuitive interface, clear LCD display, and dedicated buttons make navigation and customization effortless.

The Dual Boiler machine features a descaling function and a backflushing program for regular maintenance. The removable drip tray, water tank, and steam wand simplify the cleaning process, ensuring hassle-free maintenance and longevity of the machine.

We have reviewed Breville Dual Boiler here if you need more info.

Breville Barista Touch

The Barista Touch combines convenience and versatility with its intuitive touchscreen interface, integrated grinder, and automatic milk frothing, making it a standout choice for newbies and pros.

Just like the Oracle Touch, this unit offers automatic and semi-automatic brewing capabilities. The Barista Touch’s standout feature is the intuitive touchscreen display, which guides you through the brewing process with step-by-step instructions.

If you prefer automatic brewing, the intuitive touchscreen interface allows you to select your desired coffee beverages with a single touch, automating the brewing process from grinding to extraction.

If you want to manually tamper with your espresso, the Barista Touch offers a range of customization options. The touchscreen interface allows you to adjust shot volume, milk temperature, and texture according to your liking.

And just like the Oracle Touch model, the Barista Touch also allows for the creation and storage of personalized coffee recipes.

To help you get the best espresso every time, the Barista Touch has an integrated conical burr grinder with 30 settings so you can pick your grind’s fineness.

Brewille’s brewing technology hasn’t changed in this model. It features a powerful 15-bar Italian pump and PID temperature control. The pre-infusion function soaks the coffee grounds evenly, for a well-balanced, flavorful shot. And the precise temperature control serves up consistent, pro-quality espresso.

On the downside, the Breville Touch has one boiler, so you can’t do both brewing and steaming at the same time. But it heats up real quick, so there’s hardly any lag time.

Although I like to manually froth milk, the Barista Touch can do it for you automatically, just like Bambino Plus, for example.

The automatic steam wand automatically textures milk to your desired temperature and consistency, eliminating the need for manual adjustment. This feature allows you to achieve barista-quality milk frothing without extensive training or practice.

The Barista Touch is designed with convenience in mind. The machine features a removable water tank, drip tray, and storage compartment for accessories, making cleaning and maintenance hassle-free. The automatic cleaning cycle for the steam wand ensures hygiene and convenience after each use.

Breville Oracle

The Oracle offers unparalleled automation with its automatic grinding, tamping, and milk texturing capabilities, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a convenient and consistent brewing experience.

Breville’s attention to detail is evident in the overall aesthetics and build quality of the Oracle. I wasn’t too much surprised by this super-automatic model, to be honest.

The best thing about the Oracle is its dual boiler system. It lets you brew espresso and steam milk at the same time, and the separate espresso and steam boilers guarantee perfect temperature control.

A dual boiler means that you don’t need to wait between brewing and frothing, so you can work efficiently and always get great results.

The Oracle also features an integrated conical burr grinder that automatically grinds and doses the perfect amount of coffee for each shot. It also has an automatic tamping mechanism that ensures even and consistent tamping pressure.

This basically means that with the push of a button, the Oracle delivers fully automated espresso extraction, providing you with a hands-free experience.

Equipped with an automatic steam wand, the Oracle enables effortless milk frothing and texturing. The wand provides ample steam pressure for creating velvety microfoam, allowing you to craft lattes, cappuccinos, and more.

Breville’s advanced technology in this model also includes a PID temperature control system, which maintains precise water temperature throughout the brewing process. This ensures optimal extraction and flavour consistency.

The machine also offers adjustable pressure settings, allowing you to fine-tune the extraction to suit your personal preferences.

With its intuitive LCD interface and dedicated buttons, the Oracle offers easy navigation and customization. For example, the machine allows you to program shot volumes, milk temperature, and texture to create your preferred coffee beverages.

What I like the most is that the interface provides real-time feedback and prompts, guiding you through the brewing process. This is great for beginners!

Just like most Breville espresso machines, the Oracle features automatic cleaning and descaling cycles. The removable drip tray, water tank, and brewing components are easy to clean, further simplifying the maintenance process.

Breville Cafe Roma

The Cafe Roma is another budget-friendly option with its compact design and affordable price point, making it a good choice for beginners or occasional espresso drinkers.

The Cafe Roma showcases a compact and space-saving design, making it ideal for kitchens with limited countertop space. While it may not have the same premium features as higher-end models, Cafe Roma’s is satisfactory for its price range.

One of the highlights of the Cafe Roma is its user-friendly operation. The machine’s intuitive interface and simple controls make it easy to understand and navigate.

With a single switch for powering on and off, as well as separate buttons for espresso and steam functions, you can quickly grasp the basics of brewing espresso and frothing milk.

Despite its affordability, the Cafe Roma features a high-grade 15-bar pump pressure, which is the standard pressure required for producing quality espresso. This ensures adequate pressure to extract flavours from the coffee grounds, resulting in a decent espresso shot with a layer of crema.

It has a dual-wall portafilter, which is great for newbies because it helps get good pressure while extracting. PRO TIP: If you don’t own a burr grinder, then the pressurized filters that come with it are perfect for coarse grounds.

The machine is equipped with a steam wand for frothing milk. While it is not a pro-grade wand like one the Barista Pro, for example, I find it does a solid job. It may take some practice to achieve the desired texture and consistency.

One of the key advantages of Cafe Roma is, of course, its affordability. It is a solid entry point into the world of espresso brewing without breaking the bank. This makes it an attractive option if you are on a budget or are unsure if you want to invest heavily in an espresso machine at the outset.

However, it’s important to note that Cafe Roma lacks some of the advanced features found in higher-end espresso machines. It does not offer programmable settings, temperature control, or a built-in grinder.

Additionally, the steaming power of the steam wand is not as strong or consistent compared to more expensive models, which could affect milk frothing performance.

In the rest of this article, we will guide you through the process of finding the perfect Breville unit that suits your preferences, budget, and brewing goals.

Determine Your Brewing Style

Consider your preferred brewing style and the types of beverages you enjoy. Are you primarily interested in manually brewing espresso shots, or do you also want the ability to automate the entire process?

For example, if you are all manually creating your espressos, then Barista Pro could be for you. If you want a more hands-free approach, Oracle Touch could be the best choice.

Consider the Features

Breville espresso machines come with a variety of features, and understanding which ones align with your brewing goals is crucial. Some key features to consider include:

  • Grinder – If you prefer the convenience of freshly ground coffee, look for models with an integrated grinder. Breville offers machines with built-in grinders that allow you to grind your beans right before brewing such as Barista Pro or Express.
  • Dual Boiler System – If you want the ability to brew espresso and steam milk simultaneously, consider machines with a dual boiler system. This feature ensures optimal temperature control for both processes.
  • PID Temperature Control – For precise temperature control during extraction, look for machines equipped with a PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) temperature control system. This feature helps maintain consistency in flavour and extraction. Luckily most Breville espresso machines include this feature.
  • Programmability – Some Breville models like Barista Pro or Oracle Touch offer programmable settings, allowing you to customize shot volumes, extraction times, and milk temperatures. This feature can be beneficial if you prefer a more hands-on approach to brewing.

Set Your Budget

Breville models vary in price range, so it’s essential to establish a budget that suits your financial constraints. Luckily, Breville offers options at different price points, from entry-level machines to high-end models with advanced features.

Before making a decision, determine how much you’re willing to invest in an espresso machine without compromising on the quality and features that are important to you.

Size and Space Considerations

Evaluate the available space in your kitchen and the size of the machine you’re considering. Breville offers a range of compact machines that are perfect for smaller kitchens or limited countertop space such as Bambino and Cafe Roma.
